John Mahoney

John Mahoney, the third son of John and Mary, went to Chicago where he married Jane McNichols. He was a policeman for the Chicago Police Department. John and Jane had five children, John Marshall, Sadie, Mae, Helen and Genevieve. John Marshall died in 1901 as a result of an accident by which he contracted lock jaw. John Mahoney died on July 12, 1903. His obituary, published in the Chicago Tribune, July 13, 1903, states:
"Mahoney, John, at his residence, 526 Taylor St., beloved husband of Jennie Mahoney nee McNichols; son of John and Mary Mahoney of Conneautville, Pa.; brother of Mark and Martin Mahoney of Buffalo, N.Y.; Dan Mahoney of Norden, Neb.; George Mahoney of Conneautville, Pa.; Mrs. J.B. Sheridan of Cleveland, O.; Mrs. John Finnucan of Shadeland, Pa.; and Sisters Sebastian and Beatrice of the Order of St. Joseph, Erie, Pa. Funeral Tuesday July 14, at 9 AM to Holy Family Church, thence to D.C. Depot, by cars to Mt. Carmel, Member of St. Ignatius Court No. 18 C.O.F. And Policeman's Benevolent Association."
John's Death Certificate, on file at the County Clerk's Office, lists his age as 38, and states that he had lived in Illinois for 20 years. It lists his cause of death as "meningitis following hemorrhage of brain" with a contributing cause as apoplexy. (We had heard that he died of sunstroke while on duty directing traffic.)
