Ellen Mahoney Sister Beatrice

Ellen Mahoney was born January 25, 1871, at the farm on Palmer Road. She was baptized in August of that year at St. Peter's in Conneautville, and confirmed in August of 1883, also at St. Peter's. She was recommended to the Sisters of St. Joseph by Father Peter Cauley and entered the order on Mar. 19, 1890. She made her final profession before Bishop Mullen on March 18, 1893, and became Sister Beatrice.

There is a letter in Sr. Beatrice's records that reads as follows:

Conneautville, Pa. March 10, 1890

Dear Rev. Mother Eugene Quirk:

The following is the baptismal record of Miss Ellen Mahoney, taken from the records of St. Peter's Church, Conneautville, Pa.

Apr. 16 1871 baptzavi Ellenam naturi ex. Jonne Mahoney et Maria Heincee, Jan 25, 1871, sponsarese fuere, P. Lynch et Catharina McCabe.

On the same page there is another note:

Dear Rev. Mother, I have been acquainted with Miss Ellen Mahoney since my appointment in this mission and am pleased to say that she has been most devout and attentive in the exercise of her religion and has led a truly exempelary life.

For four months she was at my house & feel satisfied she showed every indication of having a true vocation for religion.

Sister Beatrice died October 18, 1957 at the Villa Maria Convent on West 8th Street in Erie. I remember attending her funeral with my parents.
